Avatar is a nominee?

I have something to say about that. Find it in the Forum "New Releases", which you can link to over on the right on the main page - look for 'Message Boards'.

Avatar? Seriously? The effects are good, but the writing is fucking awful. Why won't anyone acknowledge In The Loop?

The strange thing about this is that it is nominated by writers... which proves my theory that writers don't know crap about good writing. (so you probably shouldn't listen to anything I say.)

Oh well, there is no District 9 in this list.

Surprised to see AVATAR nominated, too. I think the film's writing is good, it tells an emotional story that draws us into a strange world and makes us care; but I don't really think it's award-worthy.

But I'm even more surprised to see STAR TREK on the list. An "origin" story about well-known characters that doesn't add anything to them we didn't already know and confronts them with a conflict that has nothing to do with the characters or the Star Trek universe - oh, and a conflict that makes no sense whatsoever (if the villain can travel back in time, why doesn't he just save his people?).

I suppose a lot of people still equal "good" with "popular".
