THE ARTIST is wonderful.
I recommend it for any potential screen writer. This movie tells a story without the use of dialogue.
This epitomizes Bill's teachings -- Show us, not Tell us, what is going on.
You might be amazed, really, at how much story can be shown without the need for mouth-noises.

My only quibble is the ending, which could have been improved with the idea that I recently posted at WordPlayer (IMHO).

THE ARTIST will never be a hit in the USA, because you can't get 100+ Americans (and their cell-phones) to be quiet for 100 minutes.

Don't see it in a google-plex that has explosions going on in an adjacent theater. You'll be seeing one movie and hearing the other.
And that is some sort of commentary on Americans and their need for noise to compensate for their inability to sit quietly and 'watch' a work of art.
